Sun protection is important all year round, not just during the summer or at the beach. Take our sun safety quiz to see if you know how to keep your family safe from the sun all year round.
Answers: 1. TRUE- There are about as many skin cancers diagnosed each year as all other cancers combined. 2. FALSE- About 80% of the sun’s rays can penetrate clouds on an overcast day, so even if you can’t see the sun, it can still see you! 3. FALSE- SPF 30 blocks about 97% or damaging UV rays, while SPF 15 blocks about 93%. Dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen with an SPF or 30 or higher every day. 4. TRUE- In addition, sunscreens should be reapplied every 2 hours and/or after swimming or sweating. 5. TRUE- In fact, a person’s risk for melanoma also doubles if he or she has had five or more sunburns at any age.

Dr. Kathryn J. Russell & Amy Buzzell, our licensed aesthetician, spent the day discussing the importance of healthy skin care with the people of Estero at the Miromar Outlets Health & Fitness Fair on October 25, 2014.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Moe’s Corporate race on Thursday, October 2, 2014. The Woodruff Institute for Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery had the third largest team, allowing our physicians and staff to win a very large trophy! Team Woodruff Institute was happy to be involved in this event again this year, which raised money for the Shelter for Abused Women in Naples.
She is a board certified dermatologist and fellowship trained Mohs surgeon.
Dr. Russell grew up in Sarasota, Florida and graduated from the University of Miami with a BS in Biology, cum laude honors. She received her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of California San Diego. She completed a dermatology residency at New York Medical College in New York City where she was elected to chief resident her final year. After residency, she completed an ACGME approved Procedural Dermatology Fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, cosmetic surgery, and laser surgery at the Skin Institute of South Florida. She is board-certified in dermatology and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, American College of Mohs Surgery and Women’s Dermatologic Society.
Dr. Russell will be seeing patients at The Woodruff Institute’s Bonita Springs/Estero and Naples offices. Dr. Russell welcomes same week appointments.

The Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Woodruff Institute for Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery on Wednesday, August 6th to celebrate the opening of their new office in Bonita Springs.
The Woodruff Institute for Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery opened its new 5,000-square-foot Bonita Springs/ Estero facility on July 15th. The office is located at 23471 Walden Center Drive, Suite 300, just south of the Coconut Pointe shopping center.
This new office offers full service medical, cosmetic and surgical dermatology and facial plastic surgery services under one roof. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8am until 5pm. Founding physicians, Rebecca W. Lambert M.D. and Jonathan E. Sonne M.D., along with Kathryn J. Russell M.D. and Debbie Wallace PA-C, will treat patients of all ages throughout the week.

Girls on the Run is a youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls.
